You Don't Find Your Purpose, You Choose Today

If you are waiting for a clear calling to appear, Moses puts purpose in the choices you make today.

A lot of people are waiting. Waiting for a sign, a door, a moment when somebody says, “This is what you were made for.” Every week that nothing arrives, it feels like proof they were left off the list.

Pastor Alan’s message The Crossroads offers a different picture. It does not hand you a calling. It hands you a decision, and it says the decision is yours to make today.

1. God brings you to a place of choice

The message starts in Deuteronomy. Pastor Alan reminded the church of what God had already done for Israel. He brought them out of Egypt. He sustained them in the wilderness. He protected them for forty years. He provided food, water, and direction.

Only then did the choice come. Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

Notice the order again. Provision first. Choice after. God did not demand a plan from people He had not already carried.

2. Remember before you decide

Here is a line from that message worth writing on a sticky note: “God’s past faithfulness is a foundation for today’s faith.” And another: “When you remember what God has done, it becomes easier to trust Him for what He is about to do.”

Think about your own life for a minute. Not the highlight reel. The times a bill got paid that should not have. A person showed up at the right moment. You made it through a night you thought would break you. If you look honestly, you probably have a list. Most of us skip it and go straight to what is wrong.

Try writing three of those down tonight. Not as a trick to feel better, but as a record. It gives you somewhere solid to stand when you choose.

3. Purpose is built, not discovered

Pastor Alan put it simply: “Your future is not determined by chance. It is shaped by choices.” And, “Every day you are voting for your future with the decisions you make.”

Then he named three things. Nobody accidentally has a strong marriage. Nobody accidentally has a strong faith. Nobody accidentally has a strong character. Those things are built one decision at a time.

Now apply that to the question you keep asking. What is my purpose? Look at those three. Marriage, faith, character. None of them arrived as a lightning bolt. They were built by a person who kept showing up. If you want to know what you are for, start with who you are becoming, and let the work follow.

That is not a career plan dressed up as a calling. It is a smaller and sturdier thing. Today you can choose to pray before you scroll. Today you can choose to tell the truth in a hard conversation. Today you can choose to go to church. Each one is a vote.

4. Choosing starts in the mind

Romans 8:5-6 is the second foundation of the message. Pastor Alan pointed out that Paul did not say minds drift there. He said they set their minds. Choice is not something that happens to you. You take part in it.

That matters for someone who feels useless. The feeling will tell you nothing is worth deciding. But as Pastor Alan said, “Every action first existed as a thought.” So watch the thought that says, “Why bother.” It is steering you somewhere.

5. Make one vote today

You do not need to settle your whole life this afternoon. You need to settle one thing. Where are you at a crossroads right now? Maybe it is a message you have been avoiding. Maybe it is a habit. Maybe it is a church you keep thinking about visiting.

Pick the direction that leans toward life, and take the first step before the mood changes. Then do it again tomorrow. That is how a purpose gets built.
